Course Overview

This unique activity provides over 26 hours of essential lectures, case studies, lively debates and video clips for surgeons, physicians and other clinicians who are involved in the care and treatment of bariatric surgery patients. There are eight learning modules or parts in this activity. Each part will target specific areas of learning.

Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of general surgeons, bariatric surgeons, RN, and other integrated health professionals.

Learning Objectives

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of general surgeons, bariatric surgeons, RN, and other integrated health professionals.

  1. Describe the disease of morbid obesity and its comorbid conditions;
  2. Determine medical weight loss options and the role of the non-surgeon clinician;
  3. Summarize the history of weight loss surgery;
  4. Recognize the various surgical procedures common today;
  5. Select appropriate bariatric surgical candidates and recognize contraindications for surgery;
  6. Specify issues in the perioperative care and early postoperative care and early postoperative management;
  7. Explain common perioperative complications and long-term nutritional consequences;
  8. Specify the role and goals of bariatric Centers of Excellence;
  9. Discuss nutritional ramifications of surgery including preoperative screening, postoperative surveillance and supplementations;
  10. Describe the concept of metabolic surgery and the new technologies under development for metabolic and bariatric surgery;
  11. Describe the concept of metabolic surgery and the new technologies under development for metabolic and bariatric surgery;
  12. Explain the legal ramification of surgery and how to minimize legal risk.

Accreditation

The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery designates this educational activity for a maximum of 26.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits(s)™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

CEU Credit

Up to 26.5 contact hours for the Integrated Health Course are provided by Taylor College, Los Angeles, CA (may not be accepted for national certification).

Purchase individual licenses (1, 5, and 20 users) or purchase an unlimited licence for all in your practice to use. Licenses are not transferable.
