CBN Exam Overview

The exam consists of 165 multiple-choice items. 15 of the 165 questions are pre-test questions and will not count towards your overall score. These 15 pre-test questions will be placed randomly throughout the examination.

The test presents each question with four response choices. One of these represents the single best response, and credit is granted only for selection of this response. Candidates are allowed three hours (180 minutes) to complete this test.

CBN Candidate Handbook

Nurses can obtain a copy of the handbook here in PDF format. With the conversion of the examination to Computer Based Testing (CBT), we had to make a few additions and changes to the "CBN Candidate Handbook 2008". This version of the handbook is dated January 7, 2008.

June 2007 Examination

Those candidates who have passed the CBN examination in June are free to use the CBN designation after your name. Members of the ASMBS who have passed and would like to have the CBN designation added to their names in the ASMBS directory can email info@asmbs.org with this request.

We have had many requests for "statistics" on the CBN examination.  - the number who passed and failed, et cetera. There were 315 registered to take the exam and 305 sat for the examination. Our official policy is not to release any further information at this time for reasons of confidentiality and the accreditation process.
