Explanation of Member Types
Regular Member: A general surgeon who has completed a minimum of 25 surgeries and is Board Certified and/or a Fellow of the ACS
Affiliate Surgeon Member: A general surgeon who has completed less than 25 surgeries or is not Board Certified or a Fellow of the ACS
Affiliate Physician Members: A physician or surgeon who is not a bariatric surgeon
Senior Members: A Regular or Affiliate Surgeon member who has been a member for 20 or more years or is over 65 years of age
Distinguished Member: A member of the ASMBS who has made outstanding contributions to the field of bariatric surgery
Honorary Members: A nonmember of the ASMBS who has made outstanding contributions to the field of bariatric surgery
Associate Members: An allied health care professional (i.e. nurses, dieticians, psychologists, Physician Assistants)
Affiliate Associate Members: A person actively employed in a bariatric surgical practice or hospital based bariatric program who is an Allied Health Professional.
